Query from Quora!
What can save a 21 year 'kid' (I can
justify!) dying of boredom? Quora! All my writing interests are
shape-shifted into reading ability and I am spending hours in Quora, digesting
what the active internet community puts for me. One of my favorite authors in Quora is
Balaji Vishvanathan. I am surprised by his knowledge profundity in History,
Economics and Global Politics.
His Ideologies are pretty much ‘right’ and
I can’t complain that since capitalistic economy will boost the growth of any country, though we might have adverse effects at times. He is too good for this highly
fraudulent world. He amazes me with drooling positivity in every article he has
generated.
His answer to this question caught my
attention.
Shouldn't Tamil Nadu be divided into two states?
His answer to this question was like,
"It would be advantageous in the point to make able administration and
faster economic growth if Tamil Nadu is ruled as three separate states as it
was ruled once by Chera, Chola, Pandaya dynasties". He spoke about the
power and prosperity of Tanjore city which was once a capital of great Chola
Empire. He wishes the city to attain its lost importance. His
article proposed for Chennai,Madurai and Karur as the Capitals of newly formed
states.
His intentions are so noble and upright.
This plan might work had the society be so perfect like he thought, but now the
scenario is not so.
I will tender few reasons to say why his
ideas are not practically possible.
Base
for the division
Right after our Independence there were
only four presidencies. Later they were divided on the linguistic basis.
Recently few states were divided on the basis of population and ethnicity. If
Tamil Nadu has to be divided, it should be done on the basis of caste which
will result in chaos and it is unconstitutional.
In the presence of active caste based party system and problems created by the communal groups increasing linearly, dividing Tamil Nadu will cut open many scars and create new wounds.
Parties such as Paatali Makkal Katchi (north), Kongu peravai (west), Samathuva Makkal Katchi (south) and many other communal parties which boasts their caste strength will rapidly increase their hold and try to capture the power centre to rule the respective state. This will be a total disaster to the other minorities in that region.
Honour killing will take a giant leap (I don’t know who named it as ‘Honour’ killing, seriously! what is the honor in killing?) Un-touchability will again come into picture, this time with more serious tone.
Lack of good leaders
The major parties in Tamil Nadu are
Dravidian parties but they don’t assert capable second grade regional leaders
in their party. Like it or not, they are more stable than many parties present
now. If Tamil Nadu is divided into three states they can’t win with their
newly-indulged leaders. This will create the platform for the caste-based
parties. Their hands will rise and chaos!
When Chhattisgarh was separated from
Madhya Pradesh they had Raman Singh, He is the chief minister till date.
Telengana has Chandra Sekara Rao, Who is powerful in the newly formed region. They brought most needed stability to their states.
Such a leader is not present here, hence
divide and rule is not a sane idea.
Pathway to corruption
New state will bring huge funds from
central government for building infrastructure and boost up developmental
activities. When there is no stable government or powerful ruler for that
state, that will obviously attract corrupt wolves. The pack will hunt the state
to bankruptcy.
The natural resources present in the
region will be exploited out of greed. I don’t say currently there is no
corruption and exploitation but what I say is, when there is no able government it will be a huge opportunity for money hungry wolves to hunt us.
We are not new to resource exploitation.
We have seen Granite scandal in Madurai, Sand robbery in the riverbeds of
Tamirabarani and Paalar, Mineral enriched Sand exploitation in the areas around
Udangudi and etc etc!
So instead of this divide and develop plan we can bring new ideas that will help Tamil Nadu’s economy to grow fast and attain sustainable development.
Forming more “Special
economic zones”
Yeah, there are few zones present and few
are proposed but left unnoticed later. These zones should be given priority and
support should be provided in all possible ways. Each district should have one
Special economic zone. Each district’s SEZ should focus on the
manufacture and service sectors. They should utilize their natural resources
optimally.
Forming Smart
metro cities in each zone
Should develop cities with better
infrastructure and make it feasible for investors to invest. Madurai,
Coimbatore, Trichy and Salem are the optimal options for multi-level
development. This will make people not to migrate towards Chennai for better
education, job and life style.
I know I know!! It looks like a Geo
or EVS essay written for an assignment in college :P But I felt I need to
put it this way.
And Finally
Tamil Nadu has 2+ lakh crore debts!
Makalae!! All the above points will fail to happen because of this very statement!
So choose wisely on May 16 (Yeah, That's the date to use our fingers, for voting!!!)
